Markus Pesonen

Markus Pesonen is an award-winning composer, musician and sound designer. He has a long experience in working with several music groups and works together with dance, theatre, performance art and film. Collaboration with health and social care professionals has led Markus to develop Sound Journeys that use his field recordings from nature together with original music to create immersive soundscapes with educational and therapeutic potential. Markus holds a masters degree in music and a composer diploma from the Rhythmic Music Conservatory in Copenhagen, but his insatiable curiosity has taken him to explore and research far across disciplines.

In the contemporary music field, Markus is known from music groups ranging from solo guitar with live electronics to his 11-piece ensemble Markus Pesonen Hendectet and from chamber music to techno remix with an international trajectory. Parallel to now to 17 releases as a composer and musician, he has also created 19 visual and sound art exhibitions and the music for 15 dance and theatre pieces, and three films.

Markus has performed and exhibited in Europe, America and Asia in places such as Royal Albert Hall, Documenta 13, Gateshead International Jazz Festival, Museo de Arte Moderno Mexico City, Taipei Arts Festival, Banlieues Bleues, WeJazz Festival, New Directions Festival Luleå, Kulturhuset Stockholm, Victoria Nasjonal Jazzscene, Copenhagen Jazz Festival, Jazz Festival Willisau, Exploratorium Berlin, Radial System and Schaubühne. In 2019 he’s sound installation travelled in events with over a million visitors.
